BACKGROUND
Training in innovation and entrepreneurship (I&E) in medical training has develop into more and more prevalent amongst medical colleges to coach college students in advanced downside fixing and answer design.
OBJECTIVE
We purpose to characterize I&E training in US allopathicmedical colleges to supply perception into the options and aims of this rising discipline.METHODSI&E programs have been recognized in 2016 through structured searches of 158 US allopathicmedical college web sites.
Program traits have been recognized from public program assets and structured cellphone interviews with program administrators. Curricular themes have been recognized through thematic analysis of program assets, and themes referenced by>>50% of programs have been analyzed.
RESULTS
Thirteen programs have been recognized. Programs had a median age of 4 years, and contained a median of 13 college students. Programs have been led by college from various skilled backgrounds, and all awarded formal recognition to graduates. Nine programs spanned all 4 years of medical college and ten programs required a capstone mission.
Thematic analysis revealed seven instructional themes (innovation, entrepreneurship, expertise, management, healthcare techniques, enterprise of drugs, and enhanced adaptability) and two instructing technique themes (lively studying, interdisciplinary instructing) referenced by>>50% of programs.
CONCLUSIONS
The landscape of medical college I&E programs is quickly increasing to handle newfound abilities wanted by physicians as a consequence of ongoing adjustments in healthcare, however programs stay comparatively few and small in comparison with class measurement.
